The channel filled up to 7 of 7, I threw the flood gate and it blocked off the magma channel.Want to start playing? Read this sidebar! If a crab or an imp showed up, I would have sealed the tunnel, dealt with the critter, then dug out the obsidian. I kept a double set of doors locked and had 20 or so wardogs pastured in between the locked doors. After he breaches, I set the dummy lever to repeat highest priortiy and he ran straight there and wasn't able to leave. I set a dummy lever next to the lever for the floodgate and turned off everyone's labor except the miner, who I also made sure had lever pulling. I ran a channel for the magma about 40 tiles long for the shops and a feeder tunnel from the volcano about 8 tiles. I had a cistern built nearby and ran a feed tunnel to a lava safe floodgate. There are no known ways of stopping magma creatures from entering the workshop area. Dwarfs must be creative in stopping magma creatures from entering the workshop area through the opening. If you're making your magma industry down by the lava sea this is a much easier process, you just mine out a space 1z above the lava sea and then start with step 8 Thank you Originally posted by Teemo:The suggestion for running magma over your forge is super risky, don't do that. If the magma is close (there is some 3s moving around) it could randomly shut off the forge, and it might be better to move the forge to a different location, or alternately discover a way to magma pump a chamber to pressurize the magma better. :2016watermelon: How deep is the magma? One of the things is that it needs a depth of 4 minimum where 7 is a full tile of magma and 0 is no magma. i have also dug down to level -96 its far but might be worth it. Originally posted by JimmyTheDeath:i'm above a magma layer, using magma rest stone and iron anvil also magma safe, but the forge still will not let me add a task,, when i cut a hole in the floor and mouse over it it says magma flow, i have cut all 9 square from under the forge and placed it on top and it still wont work, i have placed it on other section of the level same thing i cant get past the layer cuz every where i tried it says magma flow in the opening, i have also read the directions in the wiki its not very hard to understand its just not working. If you're making your magma industry down by the lava sea this is a much easier process, you just mine out a space 1z above the lava sea and then start with step 8 It also appears that the display for placing them doesn't show you anymore where the right spots are to keep fire imps from breaking in, but if I remember right for smiths the hole should be in the top middle and for forges it should be left middle or right middle, I don't remember the kiln spot leave lots of space because you're going to want around 4 smelters and maybe 6 forges and possibly a kiln.ģ) dig out a level below this of the same sizeĤ) dig a 1 wide corridor from your below room over to the side of the volcanoĥ) put a magma safe door going into the below room over the only entranceĦ) tell a dwarf to mine the last block into the volcano to let the magma start flowing into the below roomħ) build a magma safe wall on your side of the door so no dwarves ever get back into the magma pit for any reasonĨ) once the below room is full of magma, go back to the above room and start placing holes for the magma forges and smiths, you'll need only 1 hole for each. A better solution is:ġ) Find some free area close to the volcanoĢ) dig out a level for where you want all your magma forges and magma smelters. The suggestion for running magma over your forge is super risky, don't do that.
